I have been reading and researching this subject on some different sites and forums.
If you would like to respond, but feel as though the information is too personal, feel free to email me at livingwpmdd@gmail.com

I would love to still be able to compare some of the info, if you email me rather than posting, I won’t put your info on Life w/PMDD.

Okay… have any of you noticed (that have PMDD) that another disorder seems to get worse during your 2 wk time? Whether it’s OCD behaviors, cutting yourself, eating disorders, etc… Nothing is too small to mention, even if it just seems like a habit to you. Have you noticed that during that time you get a lot worse?

If so, have you thought about why it is, or put together any reasoning why it gets worse during that time compared to your normal day-to-day life?

What are your thoughts?

    Stef,
This isn’t quite what you asked for but it’s related I think. When I have a bad month I have spill over into the next week or so because I’m traumatized by how awful it was. This by no means happens every month but it’s happening this month. It’s not intense like the PMS but it’s just trauma, like I said.

More on topic–things that bother me about my life in general all the time (who has a perfect life) become huge and feel inescapable and unresolvable when I’m premenstrual. I become aware of only what I lack and not the good things in my life.

I feel like an ungrateful bitch at those times.

Yes, I’ve found this to be true in my case at least some of the time. However, I also think that this is a sign that one’s treatment protocol could still require some tweaking.

My experience: My other condition is ADD. The medications I’ve previously tried for it are Strattera, Adderall, and Ritalin. I’ve also taken lexapro in cycles and continuously for PMDD. Strattera helped my ADD symptoms 2wks of the month but didn’t touch them the other 2. In fact, my depression-like symptoms of PMDD were far worse while taking Strattera: on top of not being able to concentrate, I felt really, really bad about it! Lexapro helped the affective symptoms, but I still couldn’t think straight on strattera. I stopped taking it and switched to Ritalin a few months ago. Ritalin works far, far better for my ADD symptoms, and I have fewer & less intense PMDD symptoms during the “bad” two weeks. I’ve stopped taking lexapro entirely for the time being.

The bottom line: Anonymous poster, I’ve been where you are, albeit with a different primary diagnosis. It totally sucks to feel out of control of your symptoms, especially when you know that things could be better. Not knowing anything else about your history or situation, I hope that you can talk with your doc about your experience & treatment options!
